My Core Values: home, beauty, intimate connections, order, learning

"Home" is one of my core values. I love my home and I never want to leave. I enjoy making others' homes aesthetically pleasing and conducive to creativity and well-being. I incorporate my core value of "beauty" into my own home and others.

This quote about Abby Aldrich Rockefeller (1874-1948) expresses another core value of mine which is "intimate connections" and even links that value to the home and beauty. "She spoke of the power and value of beauty in our home life. She believed "a home has no nationality; it is simply the place in which the people you love most happen to be living." (from Eileen Rockefeller "Being a Rockefeller, Becoming Myself").

This painting by Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) is a visual image of my core values. I see a loving and intimate home life expressed with beauty as well as the possibility for a productive life. "Order" and "Learning", the last two of my core values, are evident here on the desk and in the room.

How interesting to discover that Abby Aldrich Rockefeller and Pierre Bonnard were contemporaries over a century ago, yet their thoughts and expressions are so current for me.
